(class Observation)

On the first day of my observation, together with Mary Ann Madelo, in the EDP 4 (Turbo C++ Programming) class, I feel quite nervous because I don’t know what are the things that are needed and not to be written in my notes. It seems like I don’t know how I feel. When the bell rang, together with Mary Ann Madelo, we go inside the computer laboratory and told the teacher that we are here to observe and soon we will be teaching in the class.

As I have observed, the teacher gave a Pretest Examination to the students. After a couple of minutes, the students are asking regarding the Test II which is identifying the error in a given code. Some are laughing and some are serious. After their Pretest Examination, the teacher leaves them with an assignment regarding the subject. And afterwards they are free to go.

I have realized that this subject is hard for me to understand how much more when I teach. It’s just that, I need to study more to overcome this situation.

(Class Observation)

On the second day of my class observation, I feel better than my first observation because little by little I can adjust with the things around me. My nervousness lessens a little bit.

As I have observed, the teacher let the students pass their assignment and after, the teacher make an oral regarding their assignment. For me, it is a very effective way to prove that the students are able to understand their work. After the oral, the teacher introduces the basic programming and everybody listens. Though there are times that the students are asking themselves but they listen more often. To test what they have learned, the teacher gave an activity regarding flowcharting and then he leaves the student with an assignment.

I have realized that in order to test students’ learning of the day is to give them an activity regarding the topic on the same day.

(class Observation)

On the third day of my class observation, it seems like a not that lucky day, it’s because the computer laboratory is close and we need to borrow a duplicate key at the maintenance. After we have opened the said laboratory, a couple of minutes, there was a brown out. But not that long because the generator is turned on. Since the generator could not carry enough energy to open a computer, the teacher decided to pass and answer their assignment in the board. But the thing there is that the white board pen has insufficient ink. So the teacher explained and then they are freed to go.

I have realized that when this kind of situation is very normal. All we need to do is to have backup plans.

(class observation)

On the fourth day of my observation, I, together with Mary Ann Madelo, was assigned to handle the first quiz of the class. The questions are made by our mentor, Mr. Nannel Aranton. I took the responsibility of giving the question on the first part and the other was taken over by my peer.

At first, it was okay when Sir Nannel hand me over the questions. But when the bell rang, it was like all the coldness of air conditioner at my back and my nervousness met. As I gave the question, some are listening seriously and some are confused. But I think only few got the lower score. Nevertheless, it ended so well. After the quiz, Sir Nannel continued his lessons regarding flowcharting and he gave an assignment afterwards.

(Class Observation)

It was just a normal day, stress-free I guess. Maybe because the class was started early and ended early that when we go outside, we will still see the sunset. It was like a routinely activity when the students pass their assignment and afterwards they will answer it on the board. Sir Nannel discusses again about flowchart in order for the student to further understand and as a sort of evaluation if the students get the topic, there is an activity prepared by the teacher.

I realized that we must enjoy what we are doing in order to lessen the burden and pressures in life.

December 3, 2013
(CLASS OBSERVATION)

The whole class was very busy because Sir Nannel gave them an activity with regards to flowchart in order for them to familiarize the sequence because it is part of their prelim exam. I can see in their faces that even if they are confused in the topic, they are still eager to learn. And that is the important thing, hardworking.

December 10, 2013
(CLASS OBSERVATION)

As I have observed, most of them are worried about their prelim exam. They feel that they could not pass the subject because they are very much confused with regards to flowcharting. But when the teacher explained the problem and showed up the answer, I can see with their eyes that they can understand more. All I can say is, I feel it before when we took up this subject, but the important thing there is to learn how to be patient and study more to understand what is this really all about.

December 12, 2013
(CLASS OBSERVATION)

Flow charting still continues on this day until next week or year perhaps. It seems like everyone can digest and understand the topic little by little and I can say it’s a good sign that the students are really focusing on their studies because this subject won’t be very easy at all. As I can see them, some are really excited to have the hands-on activity but sad to say, we still have to install a complete version of DevC++ application. But I really do hope that we can find way to install it as soon as possible.

December 17, 2013

(Class Observation)

On this day, the teacher gave an activity with regards again to flowchart. It is one way for them to make use of planning. The teacher gave 3 questions and let the students make a flowchart with relevance to the question. Our class observation has been ended because next year, we will start to teach them. And we are hoping that they would learn from us.

(Practice Teaching)

This day, my co-peer, Mary Ann Madelo teaches her topic to the class. At first, I can see and feel her nervousness but as the discussion goes by, little by little she gained her confidence to deliver her topic well. I have observed that some of the students aren’t interested but most of them like it.

After she discussed the topic, I have realized to myself that next meeting, it will be my turn. It feels like all questions are congesting in my mind. All I do is to believe in myself that I can do it. So help me God. J

(Practice Teaching)

This is it, the day that I’m going to teach them. I feel excited and nervous because I don’t know what would be the outcome of this teaching career. But before I presented my topic, my co-peer, Mary Ann Madelo, gave them a quiz for about 25 items. After the quiz, I proceed to my topic which is the basics of c++ programming. I started with a smile so that everyone will be nice to me but the real is I feel nervous. J. As time and the discussion goes by, I can feel that they understand my topic because after I discussed the topic, my mentor, Sir Nannel ask the class in random order about my topic and I feel happy because they are able to answer the questions.

I gave them an activity about c++ program that displays their name. And they feel happy because for the first time they are able to create a program. I have realized that, I should give more activities next time in order for them to master and familiarize in creating c++ program.

(Practice Teaching)

This day is great. There’s just that something happiness and proud in me. Maybe because they’d understand my topic. And I feel proud of myself. I feel happy and at the same time inspired when I heard a comment from my student that they love it. Though, programming is not that easy to learn, still, they are eager and willing to learn. And I believe that they can do it because I was once like that. We cannot deny the fact that we once hated this subject before especially at times that it was first introduced to us but as time goes by we learn to accept and love programming. I realized that we cannot get what we want with just a click, it needs time and effort.

January 16, 2014

(Practice Teaching)

This day, we check their assignment and I understand that some of them didn’t get it correctly but the thing there is that their error is minimal; it’s just that some curly braces are interchanged and some are lack of terminators. As we all know, once there is an error in code, it will not run. I can see in their faces that they are disappointed due to 1 or 2 errors in their codes. But in order for them to cope up, we encourage them to practice and familiarize everything so that they will be aware with their error next time.

January 21, 2014

(Practice Teaching)

This day we gave them an activity and of course, a short review for their midterm examination. I, together with my co-peer gave them an activity for them to work on; maybe some would say that why we keep of giving an activity where in fact they were almost got it? As for me, activities will make students practice and familiarize a program. As they say, practice makes perfect. And I believe that this subject requires more activities to fully understand by students.

January 28, 2014

(Practice Teaching)

This day is very quiet; it is because the students of EDP 4/Math 23 classes are taking their Midterm Examination in Programming. The exam is by batch. Each batch of examinee is given an hour to do the examination. As I have observed, some of them are nervous and some are not. Maybe because some are prepared, some are not. But as the time goes on, all of them are confused especially in the last part of exam which is the programming. All I can say is that it was nice because they are able to think deeply which a very good sign of recalling the lessons. Though some did not make it run, the good thing there is they have learned and they can prepare for the next exam or activities ahead.

January 30, 2014

(Practice Teaching)

This day, we gave their grades. As I have observed, they lack of energy, they lose hope for a higher grades due to their below average results of midterm examination. But when we show it to them, they feel enlighten because it’s not just mark a big difference compared to their prelim grades. They feel happy and thankful. As their teacher, I feel proud because they keep on fighting and surviving this subject.

This day also, Sir Nannel introduced and discussed a new topic regarding relational statements, of course, they are confused but they really strive to get the lesson.

February 4, 2014

(Practice Teaching)
This day, Sir Nannel gave them an activity regarding the topic that has been introduced and discussed last meeting. Mary Ann Madelo and I assisted the students because some of them, still, did not familiarize a program. It’s about 2 to 3 activities given on this day. Some of them are able to run the program and some did not. But still, they keep on trying until they able to run the program and able to show the correct answer. I have realized that in life we must not stop on learning and trying, as long as we are able to do so, we must do it until we reach our goals.

February 6, 2014

(Practice Teaching)
This day seems to be a busy day. Each one of them is given a question and they must answer it, of course, it’s a hands-on activity. They are given 30 minutes to run the program correctly. As I have observed, there are just some students who were dependents on their seatmates and classmates. Though, it is okay to ask, but too much is not good. After their activity, Mary Ann Madelo and I checked their works if it well-arranged and easy to read and, of course, it runs correctly.

February 11, 2014

(Practice Teaching)
This day seems to be tiring day for both of us. Sir Nannel gave them another activity regarding the topic that has been discussed. When the first activity is done, Sir Nannel make a twist in the question, there are so many what ifs. Of course, sometimes, we feel headaches my co-peer and I think seriously to understand the question so that we can answer the questions of the student because we are assisting them. How can we respond to their questions if we don’t understand what is asked? I have realized that, though we are only assisting the students, we must study also the topic in times someone asks a question. It’s a matter of preparation.

February 13, 2014

(Practice Teaching)
This is the last day of assisting the EDP 4/Math 23 class. Sir Nannel gave them an activity and recorded it as a quiz. I have observed that most of them able to run the program. We feel happy and proud because of the progress they have shown. Since it is our last day, we thank sir Nannel for being our mentor. And I guess, learning comes from the both of us. We are able to do it as a team, helping each other.
